Mistake: Minimal shoulder-vs-hip rotation prior to impact, measuring just 0.3° compared to the ideal minimum of 15°.
Fix: Turn your upper body slightly away from the target before contact and rotate your chest forward into the stroke.
Why it matters: Hitting the drive with a completely flat upper body limits power generation, forcing the arm to push the shuttle rather than using body momentum.
Drills
- Shadow drive drills focusing on rotating the chest toward the sideline and turning into the shuttle
- Feed-and-drive drill focusing on quick torso coiling between consecutive midcourt drives
